What are the chances that the nail-biting Semi-FINAL basketball game of March Madness between University of Arizona and Wisconsin would fall on the same night and time as a popular fundraiser's cocktail hour? Well, it's not unusual at all, unless one of the event's beneficiary is the University of Arizona's Cancer Center.

What are the odds? Amazingly high, especially when you consider that the fundraiser wasn't in Tucson, but in Scottsdale, Arizona. Yes, this was the event hosted by the Phoenix Friends of the University of Arizona Cancer Center...

Our Friends

In 1986, a small group of inspirational Phoenix women organized a dinner and auction. The event raised more than $13,000 for cancer research and launched a volunteer organization called Phoenix Friends of the University of Arizona Cancer Center.

Since that inaugural event, the Phoenix Friends have raised more than $5 million to support the University of Arizona Cancer Center’s research and service throughout Arizona! …

An Evening With Friends               

Almost 500 supporters of the Arizona Cancer Center attended An Evening With Friends at the Montelucia Resort & Spa on March 16. The dinner was hosted by Friends of Arizona Cancer Center, Phoenix Chapter, and raised money to support the Center’s mission to prevent and cure cancer.

Guests at the fun, casual-dress evening enjoyed music by the Melodic Minors, a volunteer youth symphony group, during the cocktail hour and silent auction. The entertainment also included after-dinner dancing to the music of Snake Eyes.

Jo Fitzpatrick and Suzanne Hanson co-chaired the event. Over the past 27 years, the Phoenix Chapter has raised more than $6 million for the Center. The chapter, which now has 54 members, was begun in 1986 by 12 Valley women…

On November 17, 2010, the Greater Arizona Chapter of Association of Fundraising Professionals paid tribute to several honorees for their service at this year's Philanthropy Awards Dinner held at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel.  Beginning with a cocktail reception, more than 500 guests enjoyed an evening of dinner and award presentations...

Floral scents combined with black-skirted tablecloths topped with butter-cream overlays to create a garden milieu for Evening in the Park.  About 550 guests turned out March 10 at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa for the dinner, dance and auction to support the Arizona Cancer Center, the fundraising arm in Phoenix...

Myra Richman Once again, The Phoenix Friends of Arizona Cancer Center set their sights on preventing and curing cancer. "Their dedication and commitment to our research programs here at the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center at Scottsdale Healthcare and in Tucson deserve a standing ovation," said David S. Alberts, M.D., director of Arizona Cancer Center. Their contribution toward the opening of the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Research Pavilion was duly noted and appreciated by the entire staff...
